this pokemon was laughed at by everyone when it was revealed, it looked so silly and everyone hated how it had shell armour over the amazing regenerator, which is what made slowbro so good. however I saw that if nintendo was kind, and gave it the right stats, it could work. and i was right. mega slowbro is a monster, and anyone who has faced one unprepared knows the horror it brings. with an insaine base 180 defence, a handsome base 130 sp atk, and the ability to boost its stats with calm mind and get instant heals with slack off, and add this along with its many corage moves and inability to break threw the boosts with a crit, you got yourself a monster.


Offensive calm mind:
252 hp, 252 sp atk, 4 sp def

ability: regenerator
nature: Modest
move set: Calm mind, slack off
scald, psyshock/ice beam/fire blast

This set is what makes mega slowbro so deadly. with its insane defence it dose not even need investment to be able to tank hits. calm mind is clearly the ace to this set, allowing it to boost up its monster sp attack and its sub-par sp def, allowing it to tank hits from both sides. slack off gives mega slowbro instant recovery and is very much appreciated. scald is a good attack and can help slowbro set up on the likes of garchomp, conkeldurr, and terrakion much easier with the burn, but even without it these common OU threats struggle to take down mega slowbro. psyshock allows slowbro to easly win in a calm mind war due to hitting the physical side, however icebeam can be used to be able to easly take out mega salamence, a common and deadly threat in today's meta game. as well as hitting many other targets such as dragonite hard. Fire blast is good too as it roasts grass or steel types like ferrothorn.


defensive wall:

move set: toxic/thunder wave, slack off
icy wind/subsitute, scald

This set takes a moor defensive approach. toxic allows mega slowbro to stall out opposing walls, but thunder wave cripples many deadly sweepers, the choice is up to preference. slack off is once again needed for recovery. icy wind is better used for double battles, or when thunderwave is not used. this move's use comes with slowing the foe, allowing slowbro's team mates to handle the situation better. substitute can be used to avoid status instead if one wishes to do so. scald is the only attacking move, and the only one needed as the burn allows mega slowbro to wall so much easier.


Trick room support:
252 HP, 252 sp def, 4 sp atk
item: slowbroite
nature: quiet
move set: trick room, scald
slack off, psyshock/icebeam/calm mind

this set aims to assist a trick room team well at the same time keeping some offensive presence. the evs are meant to maximize bulk as quiet nature is ment to make slowbro even slower well giving it a slight boost to its sp atk. trick room is needed clearly, and scald and slack off are there for clear reasons. the last option is questionable, ice beam and psyshock are there for the aforementioned reasons, but if you want to go mono attacker, then you can combine the calm mind set and add said move to the roster.


other options:
focus blast, fire blast, shadow ball, grass knot, and signal beam are all offensive moves that might find there way onto the offensive set, however slowbro really needs to stick with the moves  suggested. a physical set might seam nice with curse, ice punch, zen headbutt, earthquake, drain punch, or waterfall. however its base 75 attack isn't helping and its defence dosent need a bigger boost. lastly slowbro has other support options such as wonder room, iron defence, amnesia, swagger, attract, safeguard, and lightscreen, but all are situational at best and cant beat the moves suggested.


checks and counters:
Mega slowbro can be very hard to take down, especially the calm mind set. however it can be done. toxic stalling is a good way to wittle it down as long as you predict correctly, and if you can nab it before it sets up too many boosts, then choice speced menetric (or mega),  speced (or mega) gardevoir shadow ball, or giga drain from a mega abomasnow can do the trick. power physical attackers such as choice band reckless staraptor, swords dance mega scizor, or banded kyreum-black can all break threw mega slowbro if used correctly. taunt is deadly to slowbro if you use it quickly, and good users of this are sableye and thunderous. basecly you want to hit it as hard as you can as quickly as you can or you'll soon find your entire team is suddenly turned to dust.
